NASCAR: Edwards claims pole for Cup finale

Championship leader Carl Edwards Tony Stewart opened fire on Saturday afternoon, when he won the match to end the season on Sunday afternoon NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Edwards, who led the three points to 400-Miler, Stewart qualified 14th forward spot, the only Cup title challenger.
The Roush Fenway Racing Ford, Edwards easily won the match at 175.467 mph. Martin Truex rider Toyota came in second at 174.808 mph and Kasey Kahne (174.808 mph in a Toyota) in third position. Dodge teammates Kurt Busch (174.582 mph) and Brad Keselowski (174.492 mph) were fourth and fifth.
"Things are good," Edwards said, "The car was very fast in practice in race trim but I'm not really sure what to expect in qualifying. This is a very pleasant surprise to run with either. That's just one round, and the great thing is pit selection. It is difficult to assign a value to it. Still does not look like we are head and shoulders better than anyone else. "
When Edwards in two morning practice sessions, he was second fastest behind champion Dale Earnhardt in the first session and the fastest in the second. Instead, Stewart 15 in the first session and 28 in the second. Still, he did not seem too concerned.
"Qualifying is not how our race will play out," said Stewart, already two-time champion NASCAR. "This is one hundred lap how we should go? We will be solid, that's the main thing. We do not have a pole-winning car today, but our car was pretty good in race trim. I'm glad we spent more time working on race slim of qualifying trim. We'll see how it plays out.
"I want to be on pole but I've never known as a great qualification. I have, what? 13 poles in 13 years, and I've won 43 races. Do not etch his name on the trophy yet. He put on a fast lap, but fell in of lap [based on the speed of practice]. This time we did not fall during exercise, so I'm confident in how we do it. I am happy with what we have. "
Edwards said: "Hopefully, this will help us all through the race because we do not need a thorn in our side. I know how hard the team but it's good for morale. The people we will sleep better tonight knowing we'll have a choice good and the hole will be up front at the beginning. But that's just one round, and it could go either way. This will not change our approach if we qualify to-43. "
