German Scientists Develop Wireless System Brakes
Prorotipe system created by computer scientists at Saarland University in Germany it seems still a bit boxy but no longer make use of levers and cables.According algritma computers that are typically used in control systems in aircraft and chemical plants, the system should offer the reliability levels of 99.999999999997%, which means the possibility of failure of three to one trillion.
Researchers in Saarland has installed the system on the front wheel of a cruiser type bike. To activate the brakes, the rider stayed squeezing the right handlebar rubber grips. Pressure sensors under the rubber grip handlebars activates the signal sender unit mounted on the handlebars. The device then processes and transmits radio signals at the receiving device (receiver) is mounted on the tip of the front fork which then activate the switch actuator disc brakes. Increasingly tight squeeze on the rubber grip, the more powerful pressure on the brake unit.
Currently, the system is able to stop the bicycle within 250 milliseconds at a speed of 30 km / hour. The computer scientists at Saarland University in Germany have not been satisfied at that. They sure will be very easy to add features anti-lock (ABS) and traction control features on the system they developed this.
Professor Holger Harmanns, as leader of the project have been in contact with the brake maker of bicycles and they hope to exploit this technology commercially. Even if this system fails to be marketed, he believes the lessons learned from this project can be applied on a larger scale.
